Policy on access to children

Rationale

Gisborne Montessori Pre-school is committed to the care of children attending the pre-school, particularly at such times that the pre-school deems a parent, caregiver, whanau or any person picking up the child/children, to be unfit or when  the legal Guardian who enrolled the child/children denies access to an individual.

Definition of unfit

  • A person that legally does not have access to the child/children.

  • A person who is inebriated.

  • A person that is affected by drugs.

  • A person that is disorientated.

Procedures

A parent or alternative/emergency person will be contacted by phone and the situation explained. Child/ren are only released from the pre-school if the other parent or alternative contact comes to get the child.

If there is a disagreement about these issues, CYF’s will be called Phone: 0508326459.

No Access Issue

All relevant Government Acts, pertaining to access of children apply.

Example: Mum enrols child and states that Dad is not allowed to collect the child. If dad legally has access to the child, he can make arrangements with the pre-school to do so.

If dad has no legal access, mum must provide the school with a copy of court papers and a photo of dad so that staff are aware of who he is.

IF THE SITUATION BECOMES THREATENING THE POLICE WILL BE CONTACTED
