Assistant Teachers

Sandy Starr has been a qualified Early Childhood Teacher for 30 years. She trained as a Kindergarten teacher and taught in 4 different Kindergartens over the years.  Sandy has  taught here at Montessori since 2001, and has completed part of her Montessori Training.

Meryl Carlyle is a qualified Early Childhood Teacher. She is a Mother to two beautiful young women and a Nanny to four gorgeous grandchildren. Meryl is passionate about children and thoroughly enjoys working with them. She is working towards completing her Montessori Diploma. 

Charlotte Donnelly is qualified with a Bachelor of ECE. Origionally from England, Charlotte is now happy to call Gisborne NZ home, enjoying life with her husband and three beautiful children. She is currently working on her Montessori training and really enjoys working alongside the teachers and children here at Montessori. 

Marylou Schnurigher has over 30 years experience working in childcare. She has worked in numerous educator roles from structured home care to general teaching work. She is a Mum of three grown ups who are now on their own journeys and has a gorgeous grammie daughter. Marylou joined Gisborne Montessori in August 2014 and enjoys practicing positivity and flexibility in her role, always willing to go the extra mile. Since working as a Nanny in the United Kingdom, nothing makes Marylou happier to have that joy of helping the special adults of tomorrow grow into the best little people they can be.

Emma Smith is in her third and final year of study with Te Rito Maioha, gaining her bachelor of teaching in Early Childhood Education. She has been teaching here at Montessori since April of 2019 and has a passion for passing on knowledge to our tamariki and nurturing them to become competent learners.

Melissa Morrison graduated with a Bachelor in Teaching in Early Childhood Education in 2018. She has worked in Gisborne and raised her grown family here. Melissa started her teaching journey with Gisborne Montessori in 2014 and her Degree took her to experience other local learning centres. She returned to Montessori in 2020. Melissa has a heart for the Montessori philosophy and is delighted to be a member of the Gisborne Montessori learning community.

Office Administrator: Linda Gibbes has been working in the office since 2007. She finds the role fun, varied and busy. Linda loves the interaction with the families and teachers of the pre-school. You can find her in the office each day from 8.30 am to 4 pm.
